Chain saws Selection: Chain saw that you can use Safely and Easily

view garden north west

The chain saws selection for your use on your forestry garden isn’t an easy task.

There are many different brands and sizes of gas chain saws.

You need to choose a chain saw that will cut what you need done but the chain saw must be capable of doing this safely and easily.

During the period of time it took me to convert my country acreage into a forestry garden I have used many different brands and sizes of chain saws.

It hasn’t always been an easy task for me to make a chain saws selection that would do the tasks that I needed to get done.

I have found out that the husqvarna gas chain saw is a reliable, safe and easy to operate chain saw.

I have also learned that it is hard to get one size chain saw to accomplish all tasks.

  • A small saw will cut larger material, but not as easily or safe as a larger chain saw

  • A medium chain saw can cut the smaller material but not as safely or easily as a smaller saw.

  • A large chain saw can cut all material but not the smaller material as safe or easy as a smaller chain saw

The smaller chain saw is designed to cut the small material safely and easily.

It is a chore for this small chain saw to cut the larger material.

It is unsafe because of the short bar length you must be close to the material being cut.

The medium chain saw can cut the smaller material but not as safe.

A larger gas chain saw has a more aggressive Oregon chain so it is more apt to throw the small material at the operator.

The chain saws selection depends on a lot of factors

There are questions that you must answer if you are going to come up with the chain saw that you can use safely and easily:

  • What type of material you need to cut

  • Physically, what shape you are in

  • How much experience you have in this type of work

I recommend a smaller chain saw for starting out.

If you are just starting out converting your country acreage into a forestry garden and need to cut the brush in areas to get ready for reforestation, I would recommend that you start with a smaller chain saw.

If you are not physically in the best of shape this is a good chain saw to get those muscles built up.

It takes a lot of upper body strength to operate a chain saw safely.

If you do not have much experience in the operation of a gas chain saw then this would be a good chain saws selection.

After you get the hang of operation of this saw you can move up to a medium size chain saw.

This is a chain saw that is capable of cutting the larger trees that you have on your forestry garden.

This chain saw does require more body strength to operate and it has a more aggressive chain so it is more apt to kickback.

Kickback is when the chain will grab and force the chain saw back toward the operator.

This is a dangerous situation and one to avoid if possible.

The medium chain saw has a longer bar length so you are safer as you are further away from the material you are cutting.

The longer the bar and the Oregon chain is the more power the chain saw must have.

The medium saw will work well on the trees on your forestry garden up to and around a foot or so in diameter.

If you have some large trees on your garden it will be to your safety and advantage to move up to a larger chain saw.

A chain saws selection must include a larger chain saw for the cutting of the large trees

When you are faced with the challenge of having to cut some of your large trees into lumber or firewood, you can do this with the medium chain saw, but not as safely or easily as you would with a larger chain saw.

A large chain saw will offer you a longer bar allowing you more distance away from the material.

It will cut faster and this will make for a safety factor for you.

This chain saw does have a more aggressive chain so it takes a more experienced operator to operate safely.

It weighs more so you will have to be in better shape to handle this added weight.

The chain saws selection can be difficult.

I think that if you start out with the smaller chain saw and then after getting comfortable operating this you can move up to the medium chain saw and then the large chainsaw.

I believe that you need to end up with the three sizes of chain saws as you are working on your forestry garden.

As you are making a chain saws selection I urge you to take a close look at the husqvarna chain saw a proven and reliable gas chain saw.
